Thrice announce that they will be going on hiatus next year
Posted by CHADiLLAC on November 22nd, 2011 (Tuesday)

Thrice have announced that they will be going on hiatus next year.
The California prog-punkers, who released their seventh studio album, ‘Major/Minor’ earlier this year, have said that their planned US tour for next year will be their “last for the foreseeable future”.
In a statement, frontman Dustin Kensrue said: “Thrice is not breaking up. If nothing has broken us up by now, I doubt anything ever could. However, we will be taking a break from being a full-time band, and the upcoming tour in the spring will be the last one for the foreseeable future. Playing music for the past 13 years with Riley, Ed, and Teppei has been such a gift. The four of us have been through many highs and lows and overcome them together.”
He continued: “Along the way we have adapted to many changing situations, especially the growing families of both Teppei and myself, but it has been harder and harder for me with each step and the way we’ve been doing things for a while is simply not sustainable for me anymore.”
He went on: “I don’t know what the future looks like for Thrice, or for any of us individually. I do know that I would love to make more music in the future with them, as well as play some shows or short tours, but for the time being, I need to step out of the role of full time touring/recording musician. I know this will be very disappointing news to many people, and for that I am truly sorry.”

The demos, which are titled ‘Everybody Knows’ and ‘Girl (In The Purple Dress)’, were recorded when the band were still known as On A Friday and before guitarist Jonny Greenwood joined the band.
Both songs originally appeared on the band’s first ever demo tape, which was recorded in 1986 in the band’s hometown of Oxford.
Radiohead announced more dates for their planned 2012 world tour on Friday (November 18). The band, who have already confirmed a 10-date North American tour for February 2012, confirmed that they will play five shows across Europe in June and July.
The band are expected to announce UK and more European dates in the coming weeks, but have not said when this will be as yet.

Billy Corgan: ”Siamese Dream was my middle finger to the indie world”
Posted by CHADiLLAC on November 21st, 2011 (Monday)
Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan has spoken about the recording of the band’s classic 1993 second album ‘Siamese Dream’ and has described it as his “middle finger to the indie world”.
The singer, who is currently preparing for the release of his band’s ninth studio album ‘Oceania’, which is due to come out in early 2012, said that he viewed ‘Siamese Dream’ as the album that has “come through the best”.
Asked about how he viewed ‘Siamese Dream’ now, Corgan replied: “Even though it wasn’t the one that sold the most, it’s the one that seems to have come through the best. As dark a records as ‘Siamese Dream’ is, there’s a lot of fun in it, it’s almost like we’re kind of laughing at how stupid the whole thing is. It’s like, here’s my pop song about suicide and here’s my epic song about child abuse, and here’s my big middle finger to the indie world.”
Corgan also spoke about his desperate state of mind during the album’s recording, revealing that he’d been plotting his own death for two months during the album’s creation.
He said of this: “I was suicidal, and I’d been plotting my own death for about two months, and if you’ve ever read anything about the warning signs of suicide one of them is you give away all your stuff, and I’d given away all my stuff, I gave away all my records, I started giving away my guitars. I was fantasising about my own death, I started thinking what my funeral would be like and what music would be played, I was at that level of insanity.”
Corgan also spoke about the fact that during the recording of the album, he would often overdub the parts his bandmates at the time D’Arcy Wretsky and James Iha had recorded in order to achieve the sound he wanted.
He said of this: “We rehearsed a lot, we worked together a lot, we argued about things other than music, we actually never argued about music. They believed in what the album represented, they actually really believed in the album, but the actual physical making of the record, they couldn’t live up to that level of scrutiny, they couldn’t live up to that level of pressure. It destroyed my health you know, it destroyed my relationships, I went out of my mind.”
To hear the full interview with Billy Corgan and an interview with the album’s producer Butch Vig, listen To Zane Lowe on BBC Radio 1 tonight (November 21) from 7pm.

Ex-Nirvana drummer wants to work with Krist Novoselic again
Posted by CHADiLLAC on July 26th, 2011 (Tuesday)

Chad Channing has said he would consider working with his former Nirvana bandmate Krist Novoselic again.
The Before Cars frontman was the drummer in Kurt Cobain‘s band between 1988 and 1990, before being replaced by Dave Grohl.
However, speaking to Rolling Stone, Channing said he’d be keen to hook up with Novoselic again as he prepares to record a new album.
He commented:
“I don’t talk to Krist very often, but we have spoken a couple of times within the past year. I would definitely entertain the idea of working with him if the opportunity should arise. Definitely.”
Channing added that Before Cars‘ new album will be “a lot different” to their 2008 debut ‘Walk Back’.
“It’s got a lot influence from ’70s singer-songwriter type of stuff. It’s kind of like a mix between David Bowie meets Gordon Lightfoot.
Tracks slated for inclusion on the record include ‘Trip To Mars’, ‘Jerk Water’, ‘How We Run’ and ‘The Last Times’. Channing is planning to release the LP in late 2011 or early 2012.

Disturbed set to go on indefinite hiatus
Posted by CHADiLLAC on July 25th, 2011 (Monday)

Disturbed have said they intend to go on indefinite hiatus after they complete their current US tour.
The Chicago metallers, who released their fifth studio album ‘Asylum’ last year, revealed in an interview with US radio station KQXR that “internal issues” are to see them go their separate ways for a long while.
Frontman David Draiman said: “This is going to be the last tour that the American people get to see us in for a while, if not indefinitely. We have some things going on internally, we have some personal things going on.”
Disturbed had hinted earlier in the year when they played Download Festival that they were thinking of taking an extended break. Speaking to NME, Draiman said then: “We’re not sure when we’re going to be back.”
The singer also revealed that the break was not due to planned side projects, adding: “We don’t know what we’re doing. We’re not going do our own thing either.”
Disturbed toured the UK last December, headlining the Taste Of Chaos arena tour alongside Papa Roach and Buckcherry.

Red Hot Chili Peppers: ‘We wrote 70 songs for ‘I’m With You”
Posted by CHADiLLAC on July 20th, 2011 (Wednesday)

Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea has revealed that the band wrote 70 songs for their new album ‘I’m With You’.
The California punk funk band are set to release the album, which will be their 10th studio album, on August 30. The album’s first single ‘The Adventures Of Rain Dance Maggie’, dropped on Monday (July 18).
Speaking to BBC Radio 1 Newsbeat, Flea also said that the band had chosen tracks that “filled their own space” rather than simply picking “the best ones.”
He said:
“What was important to us when we put the record together was to make sure that each song filled its own space and was not like another song on the record. We wrote 70 songs, so it’s not even necessarily all the best ones that we put on, but just the ones that occupy their own space.”
Flea added that people should not take new single ‘The Adventures Of Rain Dance Maggie’ as a sign of what they can expect from ‘I’m With You’.
He said: “‘The Adventures Of Rain Dance Maggie’ – I like the song. It’s a cool, simple, funky, little jam but it’s completely different, there’s nothing else on the record that sounds anything like it. It’s a tricky one because all of the songs on the record are so different.”Red Hot Chili Peppers are set to tour Europe in October and December.

Metallica’s Lars Ulrich says ‘St Anger’ album was about ‘hurting the listener’
Posted by CHADiLLAC on July 19th, 2011 (Tuesday)

Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich has said the band recorded their eighth studio album ‘St Anger’ in a manner which would “hurt the listeners”.
Speaking to Classic Rock, via Rock News Desk, about the album, Ulrich says the band now view ‘St Anger’ as “an isolated experiment”. The album was released in 2003, almost six years after the band’s previous studio effort.
Asked about how the felt about the album, the drummer replied: “When we heard the recording from beginning to end, I felt – and it was mostly me – the experience was so pummelling that it became almost about hurting the listener.”
He also that the band put the album out as they needed to “fuck with boundaries”, he added: “I view ‘St Anger’ as an isolated experiment. Once in a while, as we’ve been known to do, we have to fuck with the boundaries. We’d already done ‘Ride The Lightning’, which I believe is a fine record – it didn’t need redoing.”Ulrich also said that though he understood why some people rated ‘St Anger’ as the band’s worst album, he didn’t personally couldn’t rank Metallica‘s releases. He added: “I think it’s fair to say some people think it’s our worst album. But I can’t. The way I view the world, I can’t rank them from best to worst. That kind of simplicity doesn’t exist for me.”
Metallica are currently putting the finishing touches to a collaborative album with Lou Reed.
